WILMA’s Leadership Institute: Meet Lauren McConville

Snapshot of this year's Leadership Institute members

WILMA’s 2025 Leadership Institute, an annual nine-month program, gives area women the opportunity to learn from leaders in the region, visit a range of local companies, and serve as each others’ personal board of directors.

The program is part of the WILMA Leadership Initiative, created to help develop more women leaders in our area.

Meet institute member LAUREN McCONVILLE.

Title: Communications & Outreach Manager

Company: New Hanover County Government

How long have you been with your current employer? 5 years

Alma Mater: Appalachian State University

Prior career experience: I have more than a decade of experience in communications, marketing, and public engagement across government, nonprofit, and private sectors locally. I have led creative campaigns, managed digital content and social media strategies, and produced a wide range of materials to support branding, outreach, and community connection. My work is rooted in collaboration, storytelling, and a strong understanding of how to reach and resonate with diverse audiences.

Current job responsibilities: As Communications & Outreach Manager for New Hanover County, I lead strategic messaging efforts across digital and traditional platforms to share the county’s story and engage the public. I manage a team within my department, collaborate with department leaders and county management, and play a key role in internal, external, and executive communications for the county.

Hobbies: In my free time, I enjoy listening to music loudly, escaping into the different worlds books allow, creeping on Zillow and critiquing interior design choices, baking delicious treats, catching up with friends over a beer, and traveling anywhere and everywhere with my husband.
