WILMA’s Leadership Institute: Meet Krissy Vick
Snapshot of this year's Leadership Institute members
WILMA’s 2023 Leadership Institute, an annual nine-month program, gives area women the opportunity to learn from leaders in the region, visit a range of local companies, and serve as each others’ personal board of directors.
The program is part of WILMA’s Women to Watch Leadership Initiative, created to help develop more women leaders in our area.
Meet institute member KRISSY VICK.

How long have you been with your current employer? Two years in June 2023
Alma Mater: Virginia Tech, B.A. Communications Studies with Concentration in Broadcast Journalism; Minor in Professional Writing and Language; 1993
Prior career experience: My career path spans three decades from covering national headlines as a television news reporter for CBN News to teaching public speaking and journalism to high school students in rural Virginia to managing media and community relations for Charlottesville City Schools. I love that I can draw from all of these experiences to be effective in my current role at UNCW working with local, state and national media, community partners, campus colleagues and students.
Current job responsibilities: I work with a variety of community partners to collaborate on university initiatives and build connections on behalf of UNCW on a daily basis. My job responsibilities include managing media inquiries; pitching campus-wide coverage opportunities; promoting UNCW’s experts and research; and writing news releases and magazine articles that highlight the programs and people that make UNCW great.
Hobbies: I enjoy cooking and baking for family and friends, reading Southern fiction, creative writing/journaling, exercising and exploring the waters of Wilmington with my husband, three children and three dogs.
