WILMA’s Leadership Institute: Meet Elizabeth Overton
Snapshot of this year's Leadership Institute members
WILMA’s 2024 Leadership Institute, an annual nine-month program, gives area women the opportunity to learn from leaders in the region, visit a range of local companies, and serve as each others’ personal board of directors.
The program is part of WILMA’s Women to Watch Leadership Initiative, created to help develop more women leaders in our area.
Meet institute member ELIZABETH OVERTON.
Elizabeth Overton
Title: Director of Philanthropy
Company: Cameron Art Museum
How long have you been with your current employer? 2 Years
Alma Mater: Salem College
Prior career experience: Prior to my current role, I was a Leadership Annual Giving Development Officer aligned with friends of the university, parent donors and was the Parents Council Liaison at UNCW
Current job responsibilities: Currently, I am the Cameron Art Museum Director of Development. I work closely with the Executive Director, Chief Financial Officer, and the Board. The Director of Development is part of the senior leadership team of the museum and is responsible for developing and implementing engagement and fundraising strategies to enhance and grow revenue and current and prospective donors. This includes the management of fundraising events, membership societies such as Director’s Circle and Compass, as well as the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual, corporate, and foundation donors. I recruit and supervise volunteers to help with department efforts. Paramount to this position is the ability to work with a high degree of independence and juggle various projects at once, while maintaining a clear view of how each project supports the organization’s mission.
Hobbies: I love unplugged time with my family – especially at the beach. I enjoy short but powerful exercises, traveling from time to time, and down time with my friends.
