WILMA’s 2021 Leadership Institute, an annual nine-month program, gives area women the opportunity to learn from leaders in the region, visit a range of local companies, and serve as each others’ personal board of directors.

The program is part of WILMA’s Women to Watch Leadership Initiative, created to help develop more women leaders in our area.

Meet institute member JACKIE JORDAN WELKER.

Title: Senior Director of Marketing and Communications

Company: Make-A-Wish Eastern North Carolina

How long have you been with your current employer? More than 3 years as an employee; more than 7 years including volunteer time before joining the staff.

Alma Mater: State University of New York College at Cortland

Prior Career Experience: On-air radio personality and program director for 102.7 GNI and 94.5 The Hawk; marketing and promotions director for Cumulus Wilmington five station cluster; event emcee. 

Current job responsibilities: “I handle the marketing and communication needs for Make-A-Wish Eastern North Carolina which includes, community engagement, media relations, email marketing, storytelling efforts, graphic design, social media, brand collateral designs, website maintenance, etc. Additionally, I am a lead for event planning and logistics for internal chapter events and supporting fundraising efforts as needed.”

Hobbies: “I have 2 cats that are fun and feisty, I enjoy the beach but don’t get there nearly as much as I would like, I love to plan and take vacations, and I really enjoy binge-watching shows with my husband. He doesn’t like that as much but he’s a good sport.“
