Take 5 with Stephanie Lundberg Mayew

When STEPHANIE LUNDBERG MAYEW was searching for a place to volunteer, she knew she had two requisites: utilize her professional skills and work with animals. Her search led her to the nonprofit All 4 Cats, a local rescue that provides forever homes and resources for cats. Outside of her job as a clinical team manager at PPD, she devotes several hours a week, helping in the office and fostering kittens in her home. Offering her time in this small way has benefited her tenfold, and Mayew shares the five reasons she loves what she’s found:
“SAVING LIVES – I want to make an impact and help find homes for as many animals as possible so that we can prevent unnecessary euthanasia. FEELING GOOD – It is an amazing feeling to foster a kitten and see the little one go to a good home. You know that in that short time you fostered, you gave that animal a second chance for a great life. MAKING AN IMPACT – While volunteering at events, I speak to our community about various issues: the number of homeless cats, the importance of spaying and neutering, how to get the word out when a cat is lost (i.e. social media), or what to do when a family member has passed away and a new home is needed for their pet. MEETING NEW PEOPLE – Through volunteering I have made so many new friends with a common bond – love for animals. BEING AROUND ANIMALS – Spending time with the cats, playing with the kittens on the floor, or just having a cat sit in my lap while I complete paperwork for the rescue – just being around them makes me happy.”
