To the Max
Patterns on patterns style
Every turn of season, the urge hits to buy a whole new slew of clothes in celebration. And while retail therapy cures so many ills, this summer you can find that dopamine dressing high in your very own closet with printmaxxing – a mash-up of seemingly clashing prints. Mixing stripes and florals or plaids and polka dots are all fair game, adding a new, vibrant energy to your existing pieces.
Here’s how to do it:
Choose your palette: The idea isn’t to match colors, but it’s helpful to have a color story in mind. Opt for pieces within that realm to keep your look balanced.
Incorporate scale: Printmaxxing is most successful when you pair small and large patterns, keeping the eye interested and moving.
Make it intentional: Loud is good, but deliberate is even better. Use the magic number theory and limit your pattern choices to three. In this case, fabrics with texture such as wovens, leather, or lace can also count as patterns.
