WILMA’s Leadership Institute, an annual nine-month program, gives area women the opportunity to learn from leaders in the region, visit a range of local companies, and serve as each other’s personal board of directors. The program is part of the WILMA Leadership Initiative, created to empower women to lead with confidence and purpose. Meet institute member MEGAN TOOTHMAN.

Title: Community Engagement and Health Equity Coordinator

How long have you been with your current employer? 7 years
Alma Mater: University of Florida, and currently enrolled in graduate school at UNCW
Prior career experience: Middle School Teacher, Integrated student supports at Communities in Schools of Cape Fear as a student Support Specialist and supervisor
Current job responsibilities: As the Community Engagement and Health Equity Program Coordinator for the College of Health and Human Services, I manage the Health Equity Bonner Fellowship (HEBF) and cultivate strategic partnerships for college-wide projects. I collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to design initiatives that improve health outcomes and strengthen community engagement. Additionally, I provide essential programmatic support for the Center for Healthy Communities and the Community Engagement and Health Equity office.
Hobbies: I love reading, sitting in the sunshine, going on walks with my dogs, and listening to podcasts and music.
