One of the most important aspects of health is sleep with it playing an important role in immune function, metabolism, memory, learning, and other vital functions, according to the Division of Sleep Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Plus, getting a night of good sleep can make the difference between having a good day and a bad one.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends that adults should get seven or more hours of not just sleep, but good quality sleep. Things that can make it harder to get good sleep include stress or anxiety, pain, certain health conditions, caffeine, and other factors.

There are several companies in the region that seek to help people get relaxing sleep, whether that be from herbal concoctions such as Queen Esther Teas (pictured above) to therapy to gadgets that promote rest.

Green Compass Inc.

Many attest to the effectiveness of CBD for different ailments from pain to sleep. Green Compass Inc. is a Wilmington-based hemp firm that is a multi-level marketing company but also sells directly to customers through its website.

The company’s list of products can be searched by complaints including sleep. Products that pop up from the search include Sleep Better Nano Jellies which according to its website includes a blend of ashwagandha, passionflower, and lemon balm to promote sleep as well as CBN hemp flower extract, thought to be most helpful for sleep, stimulating appetite, and treating pain.

“A soothing formula helps to calm the mind and provide natural relaxation for healthy sleep cycles,” its website states.

Queen Esther Teas

Founded by ADRIENNE ARRINGTON-KENION, Queen Esther Teas is a local company that sources a variety of teas with the goal of providing a natural remedy.

With origins in China, tea contains substances linked to a lower risk for heart disease, cancer, and diabetes, according to an article by Harvard Health Publishing. It can be part of a healthy lifestyle when paired with a healthy diet.

Arrington-Kenion became interested in teas when over-the-counter medications stopped working for her, she said in a WILMA story last year.

“I started researching natural remedies, which led me to herbs,” she says. “I became interested in how to get them inside my body and found the easiest way was to make tea.”

For sleep, Queen Esther Teas has the Sleeping Beau-Tea made with chamomile, lavender, butterfly pea, and valerian root which has a long history of use as a sedative that can promote sleep.
