On Island Time

Tropical Inspiration

From Kahlo’s vibrant Mexico to Gauguin’s lush Tahiti, the tropics have always been an origin of inspiration. Designers take note this summer with a storm of colorful prints — and while not for the fashion faint-of-heart, there are plenty of ways to sport these pumped-up florals without looking like you’re going to a luau.

Ease into the trend by pairing a tropical top with a basic skirt or a crisp white button-down with palm leafed pants. Or, own the trend and power on in an all-over print jumpsuit. Silhouettes vary from loose and breezy to tailored and cinched, so there are lots of options amidst the flora and fauna suited to your style and body type.

The right accessories can transition your outfit from casual to cocktail: Big baubles signal fun, while delicate pearls and a structured clutch give more of an evening vibe.
