Natural Glow

Summer is the season to simplify your style

WHEN IT’S SWELTERINGLY HOT OUTSIDE, WEARING LOTS OF LAYERS FOR STYLE’S SAKE JUST ISN’T REASONABLE. That’s when your hair, makeup, and jewelry take center stage. The latest beauty trends for summer are all about accenting one feature and keeping your routine easy. Accessories are also an easy way to spice things up without melting away. If “barely there” is the beauty mantra for the summer, emphasize your effortlessly cool approach with a few of these eye-catching tips from our style team.

The Bronze Look

Wet hair is as ubiquitous as a tan in beach towns like Wilmington. The key to sleek hair sans the flyways is in the hairspray, hair stylist Felicia Dixon says. “Always use humidity control hair spray with a light hold.”

Top off the sleek look with a contourless, golden bronze palette, makeup artist Danielle Forte adds. And when wearing your hair off of your face, don’t forget your statement jewelry.

Blue Eyes

There were fifty shades of blue on the spring and summer runways. Thankfully, that means there’s a shade for every complexion. But if you’re not ready to take the leap into painted blue eyelids, you can always start small, Forte says.

“Try a simple blue eyeliner to showcase the accent color,” she says. “Line the top lash line or the bottom. It is always pretty with a light shimmery bronze eyeshadow.”

Coral Lip

Make a statement with natural makeup, an audacious necklace, and a bolder pop of color on the lip. This season, coral and red are among the top choices.

“Coral lips, whether it be a pale or a darker orange, looks beautiful on summer-kissed skin,” Forte says. “A light textured lipstick in a satin or sheer textures looks stunning, too.”
