Wilmington resident Colleen Gardner’s love for wood and ambition to create spurred the idea for an Etsy store filled with nautical picture frames and coastal-inspired knickknacks.

The Southern Mermaid

A local vintage design company started by Carrie Furr. It specializes in furniture redesign, custom bedding, and restyled vintage goods and sells pieces at Aqua Fedora and Hallelu boutiques as well as on Etsy.

 

Joseph Hammett

Joseph Hammett has been designing and building for more than fifteen years. Hammett received an industrial design degree at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, and then he started his own business designing and building custom furniture. His work has been displayed in Dwell, Metropolis, and Surface magazines. In 2004, he returned to Wilmington to continue his love for design.

Bryan Humphrey Design & Construction Inc. has 30 years of experience under its belt, and they’re not afraid to tackle new design requests. Humphrey says his experience in woodworking allows him to produce practical and unique projects. 

 

Jake’s Chop Shop

The inspiration for Jake’s Chop Shop started when Jake was just a kid. He pulled apart lawn mowers and rebuilt them to make go-carts. After working in an auto body shop in North Carolina, he decided to start a

business of his own. So, he opened Busted Cherry Auto Body Shop in Richmond, specializing in pre-’64 customs. He then began converting old hot rod rear ends into restaurant booths and now makes custom, car-inspired furniture from recycled materials.

Mary Holden is the owner of Fat Cat Pottery studio in downtown Wilmington. Fat Cat offers classes and equipment to potters of all ages. Holden has more than thirty-eight years of experience in pottery making.
