Kitchen remodel: What to expect
MarKraft Cabinets understands how daunting a kitchen remodel can sound to a homeowner. But the company that has been operating in Wilmington since 1985, offers a variety of options.
“If they don’t want to go through the renovation process, you can change the countertops out or change the tile backsplash or change the hardware,” said Cee Edwards, director of sales for MarKraft Cabinets, Inc.
You can get a whole new look by changing the faucet and other hardware, such as the cabinet door knobs or drawer pulls. Installing additional lighting, especially under the cabinets, can brighten a space. Or, replacing laminate countertops with granite or quartz can upgrade your kitchen.
“With the homeowner, it depends on how much construction they want to get involved with,” Edwards said. Although the words “kitchen tear out” may sound scary, Edwards says his company is doing a new “tear out” every week.
MarKraft Cabinets also offers cabinet refacing and can provide an estimate for both refacing and replacing cabinets. However, sometimes the cost difference between the two is minimal, he said.
Some clients want to replace their countertops first and then their cabinets later. However, MarKraft discourages this, because it’s best to do all of the work at once to avoid damaging the material, especially stone countertops that can break, in the second installation.
Every project is different. But clients can expect the process to take between one and seven days.
“You won’t be without your kitchen for very long,” he said.
One common misperception is “that it has to be really expensive to get a good look and I don’t think that’s true,” said Suzanne Reid, Selection Center Coordinator for MarKraft Cabinets. “We have five different cabinets and within the lines there are different levels of pricing.”
A MarKraft designer will conduct a site visit to take measurements of the space and to do some preliminary design work. Reid suggests collecting pictures from magazines that reflect the aesthetic you like. She also recommends going to MarKraft Cabinets’ Facebook page to see their completed designs and to get a better idea of your style.
