2013 Trends

Leather-esque leggings and jeans
One of the biggest trends from the holiday that will continue into the first part of 2013 is super skinny, faux leather leggings and jeans. There are many styles of “coated” denim that has the sheen of leather, such as the Blank NYC Starman Skinnies, which step up your look with the addition of some glam (available at www.blanknyc.com or EDGE OF URGE). Use them to extend your holiday pieces by pairing with your glitzy holiday sweater or party dress (like this Parker beaded dress from the December WILMA cover (on the right), – and you’ve got a totally new look.
Sleeker moto
Put aside the “Moto Jacket” — all the zippers, asymmetry, and the fashionably rugged construction, might just be a bit too much this year. Instead, check out this little beauty. The Veda Boss jacket has a collarless design, hidden zipper, and noticeable but still very minimal tailoring (available at OLIVER) Layer over a holiday dress (like this Rebecca Taylor gown on the left) for a night on the town.
Steel toes … still
If you remember the late 90’s, you remember the obsession with stee-toe boots. Well, guess what? It’s 2013, and we still love steel toes. But we aren’t talking about Doc Martens. Instead, the classic pump has been giving a new life with the addition of metal clads. From covered toes to heel accents, any touch of metal makes a shoe look a little edgier. Don’t be afraid to combine interesting colors and this metal trend, like here in the Jeffrey Campbell Bullet Pump (available at www.jeffreycampbellshoes.com or EDGE OF URGE).
Not-so-statement necklaces
Ax + Apple is a small design team with roots in Wilmington and now a studio in Los Angeles. Through the use of interesting metals and handmade charms, they create necklaces like FELIX (top) and NYX (bottom) that have a vintage look and feel without compromising modern styling. What these necklaces might lack in standard “statement necklace” size, they make up in intriguing design (available at www.axandapple.com).
