In Full Bloom

Before the fall fundraising season gets in full bloom, an annual program to help add oomph to local nonprofits’ events again is underway.

Applications for the fifth Julia’s Florist Flower Grant are being taken through August 31. Launched in 2010, the initiative has provided floral settings for a number of local nonprofits for their fundraisers.

“We know how crucial these anchor events are to nonprofits,” says Dana Cook, Flower Grant creator and owner of Julia’s Florist. “Our floral artists are honored to use beauty to help these groups draw attention to the greater issues that face our community.”

The program, which has an annual disbursement of $15,000, has gifted arrangements, bouquets, and centerpieces to a variety of nonprofits. Last year’s recipients included the N.C. Coastal Land Trust, American Red Cross-Cape Fear Chapter, and Paws Place among others.

To qualify, officials say, nonprofits have to be located in New Hanover County and northern Brunswick County. The grants will be awarded in September at a reception.
