Energy in Motion
Couple runs Mayfaire yoga and fitness studio
In MACY and TROY COLE’s love story, it was dharma at first sight.
The two say they knew from their first date they were meant to build something meaningful together. Now as a married couple, they own and operate E▪︎Motion Fitness and Studio in Mayfaire, where they serve more than 500 daily customers with offerings that include yoga, pilates, barre, fitness training, and nutrition guidance.
The duo has combined their unique set of skills under one roof: Macy is a former Division I athlete and has practiced yoga for more than fifteen years. Meanwhile, Troy is a retired professional soccer player turned athletic trainer.
“When we first met, I was struggling with knee pain and about to have surgery,” Macy Cole says. “Troy was in pain from soccer and over-training, living on anti-inflammatories. Yoga healed our bodies.”
She became his personal yoga instructor. “I left professional soccer feeling better than when I started,” Troy Cole says. “Which is a rare thing, but I do attest that to putting the practices of yoga in my daily routine.”
In turn, Macy took a page out of Troy’s book and began strength training. “Day to day I had more energy,” she says. “The strength training gave me more energy and the studio side gave Troy less pain.”
The two noted that at E▪︎Motion, weightlifters have become yogis and yogis have often taken up weightlifting. The Coles have built a space for deep growth and camaraderie. They have a code of conduct they call “The E▪︎Motion Way,” which is a two-pronged approach for decision-making. “Gate 1, do we believe in it?” Macy Cole says. “Gate 2, does this build community?”
They named the studio E▪︎Motion because of their dedication to putting positive energy in motion, both on a personal level and for the community.
“We want everyone who walks through our door to leave this place feeling better,” Macy Cole says. “Troy and I wanted to build a place based in the love that he and I share. We both value movement and have a common goal to make this world a better place.”
