WILMA’s Leadership Institute, an annual nine-month program, gives area women the opportunity to learn from leaders in the region, visit a range of local companies, and serve as each other’s personal board of directors. The program is part of the WILMA Leadership Initiative, created to empower women to lead with confidence and purpose. Meet institute member MONICA FLORES de VALGAZ.
Monica Flores de Valgaz
Title: Owner & Mental Health Therapist

How long have you been with your current employer? 2 years
Alma Mater: Northwestern University
Prior career experience: Before launching my private practice, I worked as a therapist at a local group practice providing outpatient mental health care. Before my therapy career, I served as an admissions coordinator at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, where I coordinated large open house events and supported prospective students as they navigated the college admissions process.
Current job responsibilities: I am the owner of Align and Light, PLLC, a solo private practice where I manage all aspects of the business while providing modern, evidence-based mental health therapy. I specialize in working with the perinatal population and in trauma treatment using Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. In addition to individual therapy, I also provide psychoeducational workshops and presentations for community groups and organizations focused on mental health and well-being.
Hobbies: I enjoy spending time outside, usually with my two young kiddos! If I get any kid-free time, I can be found reading, hiking, or at pilates.
