Re-Opening Act
Dead Crow Comedy Room kicks off with comedian Sara Schaefer

Laughter will be heard around Wilmington as stand-up comedian and Emmy Award-winning comedy writer Sara Schaefer takes the stage this weekend.
Schaefer’s appearance will mark the reemergence of a dedicated space for comedy shows.
“(Sara) ended up being our grand opening event,” says Timmy Sherrill, owner of Dead Crow Comedy Room. “Sara is booked to be the first act of the comedy show.”
Schaefer, who was visiting her hometown of Richmond, Virginia, says she planned a mini-tour in the region.
“I have toured in the area before, but I've never performed in Wilmington,” she says. “The guys at Dead Crow have a great rep with comedians, so I am excited to be working with them as they open their new venue.”
Dead Crow Comedy Room is the new name for the displaced Nutt Street Comedy Room, previously at 255 North Front Street. The renamed comedy club is now located at 265 North Front Street, former home of Firebelly Lounge.
Schaefer was recently the co-host of MTV’s late night show Nikki & Sara Live. She also won two Emmy Awards for her work with Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.
“I've always been drawn to comedy and making people laugh has been something I've loved doing since a very young age,” Schaefer says. “It was a way to get attention in my large family, a way to diffuse teasing at school, and a way to connect and make people feel good. I'm very lucky to now be able to call it my career.”
Other recent national comedic women have also made stops in Wilmington such as Judy Gold, former The Rosie O’Donnell Show writer and producer, and Lizz Winstead, co-creator and former head writer of The Daily Show.
“There seems to be more male comics than female,” Sherrill says. “There are more females getting in the business. They’ve always been around.”
Schaefer will perform 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. shows at the Dead Crow Comedy Room on June 20-21.
“It’s our grand opening weekend, and we’re excited have Sara be apart of that,” Sherrill says.
