Coaching Women into Health
Tiffany Cripps brings wellness to Wilmington
When it comes to health, one size does not fit all, and many women struggle to find their ideal path to wellness. That’s where Tiffany Cripps comes in as a health coach at her Wilmington company called Health Begins From Within.
While working towards her master’s degree in public health, Cripps wrote a research project, “Health Begins From Within,” which focused on developing a cardiovascular risk reduction health program for underserved populations.
“After all these years, the concept of wellness is just as important to me now as it was then,” says Cripps, who worked in the clinical and pharmaceutical research industry for more than 20 years and has experience as a personal trainer, exercise physiologist, and health coach. She has particular knowledge, she said, of illness prevention and the research involved in treating disease by bringing drugs to market.
At Health Begins From Within, Cripps coaches clients through INTERVENT Health’s coaching platform, which provides services to more than 150 medical centers, and since its inception in 1997, has served more than two million individuals. Cripps says her health coaching programs are individualized based on clients’ health history questionnaires, and that sessions are designed to be under a half hour with remote options. “Throughout the course of the program, participants address topics such as nutrition, hypertension, high cholesterol, activity, weight loss, stress management, smoking cessation, and risk reduction,” she says. “Self-help programs are also offered and designed, so you can work at your own pace.”
In addition to physical health, Cripps’ coaching focuses on overall wellness that includes mental, social, financial, and spiritual wellness. “I am a big advocate of the holistic model for well-being and self-care,” she says. “I have noticed that we selflessly give to others and, often, our needs are pushed to the side. There is nothing selfish about taking care of yourself so you can continue to care for others.”
Affordability in health coaching is important to Cripps, and she said decreasing health disparities and increasing health literacy and equality are also part of her mission. Cripps says she loves working with clients who are ready to make changes and empower themselves with the tools and resources she offers to improve and sustain health and wellness.
“I will meet you wherever you may be on your wellness journey, and together we will work to put a plan in place to help you reach and achieve your wellness goals,” she says. “It’s never too late to begin, and I will be with you every step of the way.”
